I wished to all the gods that I would have known Raven sooner, had been able to prevent her from being taken and having to go through what she had been forced to endure.

When Eryx told me about his mate, I laughed in his face, not believing a word about sasseath, essenxia, or the whole nonsense of soulmates. Now though, looking into Raven's sapphire eyes, I knew his words to be true. She was mine and no power in the universe would ever separate us. I would care for her; protect, love, and cherish her. Never again would her life be in danger and never again would she be forced to make impossible decisions.

At the knock on the door, announcing my crew's arrival, my first instinct was to growl and send them away, a foolish notion. Not only where they my crew and I was responsible for them, their numbers would help protect the most valuable person in my life.

"Enter," I grumbled.

Forty males swarmed the room throwing curious, albeit veiled glances at Raven and again I forced myself not to react and throw them out. Seeing they were friendlies, Raven lowered her hood, drawing more attention. The desire to snarl at her to put the hood back on was nearly overwhelming, but I restrained myself.

She was my mate, that I was sure of, but she wasn't my property or prisoner. I would have to get used to males staring at her. She was a beautiful, desirable female and it would be my job to keep her happy and satisfied by my side.

"Neegan sent us, he is still searching for more of your crew, Cap." Wol-Ter, my Master-at-Arms informed me.

"There are refreshments over there," I pointed at the table. "We will wait here for the others and make plans how to get out of here."

"Whatever you did, Cap, you sure angered the Vile Ones." Wol-Ter added.

Wol-Ter had been with me for rexxars and normally I would have trusted him, like the others, with my life. But today was different. Suddenly, each member of my crew was a potential threat to my mate, and I didn't like it one bit.

I did like the thought of Raven as my mate though. Despite never seeking one out, or having the desire to search for one, I was elated she was mine. I wasn't so sure what she thought about it yet, though. I grinned. I liked a challenge.

"They are after more than simple revenge, that much is for certain." I agreed with Wol-Ter without giving too much away.

More males streamed in and an hoxor later our numbers reached over three hundred odd crew members. Unfortunately, this was only a fraction of the crew we started out with, but it would have to be enough.

None of the whores joined us and I didn't know, if they were still at the hospitality place I had rented or had found new employment elsewhere. I shrugged, they were resilient and would find their way. They were not my concern any longer.
